Election Officials Looking To Increase Voter Turnout

Kentucky Secretary of State is meeting with voters and voting officials to think of ways to increase voter participation.
The first of five public forums to discuss possible changes to election laws in Kentucky was held Tuesday afternoon in West Liberty. The public, along with local election officials from Morgan County and surrounding areas, met with Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes to discuss what works and what needs improved in the state's election laws.

Numerous topics were discussed, but two are growing trends across the country. The first would be to allow Kentucky citizens to register to vote online. This would save the state money and help to provide more accurate voter information.

To increase voter turnout, the possibility of expanding early voting to everyone, not just those with an excuse, was talked about.

The Secretary of State's office will compile the suggestions and submit them in a report to the General Assembly next January for possible legislative action.
