The Kentucky Board of Education has voted to give state Education Commissioner Terry Holliday a four-year contract extension.

Holliday was hired by the board in 2009. The new contract runs through August 2017, but does not include a raise on his
$225,000-a-year salary.

A statement from Kentucky's Department of Education says the board unanimously agreed on the extension at its regular meeting Wednesday morning. Board member Brigitte Blom Ramey says Holliday has a "gift for communicating about policy in a no-nonsense fashion."

The statement says under Holliday's leadership, Kentucky has seen improved test scores in assessments for eighth and tenth grade students and improvements in Advanced Placement tests by high school seniors, among other accomplishments.
