Eastern Kentucky Community Marches Against Drug Abuse

More than a hundred in Owsley County take to the streets in Booneville with an anti-drug message.
More than 100 residents from Owsely County took to the streets Sunday afternoon, marching against drug abuse.

They were joined by State Senator Robert Stivers and Kentucky State Police Captain Lisa Rudzinski who spoke to the crowd after the march in front of the Owsely County Action Team building.

Their message was for the community to be proactive in fighting drug abuse in the community by being observant of what's going on around them and to call law enforcement if they see unusual activity.

According to Forbes Magazine, Kentucky has the sixth highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the nation at more than a thousand a year.

The White House Drug Czar said eastern Kentucky has an "epidemic" of prescription drug abuse.
