Inmates across the state are being released ahead of schedule and it's costing money some places while saving in others.
Since last year, 2,100 inmates have been released from Kentucky jails early in order to cut down on costs for the state, but county jails seem to be picking up the slack financially.
Christian County is just one example of the statewide problem.
Officials thought the jail in Hopkinsville could make money since it housed county and state inmates, so it expanded its capacity, but the jailer says now that 58 state inmates have been released, they may have to request $2.5 million from the county to make up for it.
