We're learning more about an EKU student who troopers say was stabbed to death on New Year's Day.

EKU says 25-year-old Michael Shane Hogg of Whitesburg was a senior in the Applied Engineering Management program.

Troopers say Hogg was killed Wednesday in downtown Whitesburg.

According to State Police, it happened after five people left a bar on Hayes Street and started arguing.

Two other people went to hospitals.

James Huffman is now charged with murder and assault.
