There were some anxious moments for a student pilot and Flight Instructor Thursday afternoon in Madison County.

A spokesman for Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond said a Skyhawk single engine airplane, leased by the school for its Aviation Program, had to make an emergency landing in a field approximately a half-mile short of the Madison County Airport.

The school said neither the student pilot, Anthony Flowers, nor the Flight Instructor, Richard Quant, suffered any injuries.

The University spokesman said the plane appeared to have suffered damage to the right wing and back section.

The school said during the landing, the airplane apparently clipped a utility line and hit the only tree in a farmer's field.  The school said the utility line has already been repaired.

Per protocol, the FAA was notified.

FAA officials are scheduled to be at the site of the incident on Friday to conduct an investigation.
