The Kentucky River Foothills Development Council received a one million dollar grant on Saturday to support local veterans, going to college, have a home while at school.

According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development there are more than 62-thousand veterans in the United States that are homeless.

The number of homeless veterans makes up 12 percent of the nations transient population.

The grant, given by the Supportive Services for Families program, will go towards helping veterans find homes or transitional houses, pay utility bills and connect to multiple outreach programs, like personal finance planning, transportation and child care services.
