Dress For Success Comes To Lexington

The global non-profit is opening a Lexington office to help empower disadvantaged women.
The global non-profit organization Dress For Success is opening an affiliate location in Lexington.

The founders of the local chapter say they will be holding their initial meeting on May 9th at the Lexington Public Library's central location downtown from 6:30-8 pm in Room A.

At this meeting, the newly-formed affiliate will be seeking volunteers and donors who can offer time, equipment, funding, or other resources.

According to a press release, Dress For Success "promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women and empowers them by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help them become self-sufficient."

The worldwide organization started in 1997 and can now be found in 128 cities internationally. The organization says it's helped more than 650,000 women work toward self-sufficiency.

Women must be referred to Dress For Success, and that only happens after they have completed job training programs by community-based social services or other non-profits.

Among the services offered to women who qualify are professional attire, career development tools, and employment retention programs.
