Deputy Jailers Charged In Death Of Perry County Inmate

State Police said Deputy Jailers Damon Hickman, 36, of Hazard, and William C. Howell, 57, of Estill in Floyd County, were indicted in connection to the death of an inmate at the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
State Police said Tuesday that two Deputy Jailers were indicted by a Perry County Grand Jury, following an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

Investigators said Deputy Jailers Damon Hickman, 36, of Hazard, and William C. Howell, 57, of Estill in Floyd County, are each charged with one count of Manslaughter 1st Degree in connection to the July 9, 2013 death of jail inmate Larry Trent.

State Police said Hickman and Howell voluntarily surrendered to detectives.

Both men were lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Hazard.
