Kentucky traffic deaths in 2012 continue to outpace the number of deaths in 2011, according to state police.

Troopers say 437 people had died in crashes up to August fifth. During a comparable time in 2011, 418 people had died.

State police say of 349 vehicle deaths, 198 victims were not wearing seat belts. Of 50 motorcycle deaths, 27 victims weren't wearing helmets. Other deaths involved pedestrians hit by vehicles, a scooter rider, and a bicycle rider.
