Lexington can sleep easier knowing that the rolling 'brownouts' will be coming to an end.

In a unanimous vote Thursday night, the Urban County Council approved a $640,000 plan to help staff the Fire Department.

Five years ago the city started closing fire stations, one day at a time, to save money.

But in some cases it meant longer response times to emergencies.

The Council says the plan is to end the brownouts by April 1st.

We'll take a closer look at how the vote will affect the Fire Department on ABC 36 News at 11.
