Since the shooting a Connecticut elementary school last week, parents are looking for ways to keep their kids safer.  A Kentucky company makes bulletproof backpacks, and we took one to a shooting range.

The creators claim the bag is bulletproof from a .45 caliber bullet down.  They fired about 10, 9 millimeter bullets into the bag, and the backpack crushed the bullets.  The  deepest one penetrated only 7 out of 17 layers.

"You have a chance and an opportunity if your life encounters a situation that's unimaginable," said Goturbac President Steve Ayers.

Ayers says parents spend $200 on shoes just for style.  He says the bag costs $179, and it can save a life.  He armed his daughter with one.

"She knows that she has a deterrent with her at all times, which gives me peace of mind as her father," said Ayers.

He says the bag deters shooters.  He tells a story of an attempted armed robbery in Mexico, where a man fired twice into the back from point blank range.  The shooter could not believe the victim was unharmed, and then just ran away.

"We are slowly coming to the reality that we do not live in the same world that we may have grown up in," said Ayers.

He says the company has received many more calls than usual since the shooting.  If you are interested in learning more about the bag, you can find it at: http://thebulletproofbackpack.com/
