Hundreds of members of Kentucky’s law enforcement and the Marion County community came together Saturday in the Marion County High School Gymnasium to say goodbye to Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Rakes.
Police say 31-year-old Rakes died earlier in the week after being shot while checking on a stopped car off the side of the road.
Rakes joined the Marion County Sheriff’s office in 2004.
Those that knew Rakes say it was his life’s dream to be a police officer and say he died doing what he loved.
Rakes’ body was laid to rest at the Old Liberty Cemetery following the service.
Kentucky State Police charged 49-year-old Dewayne Shipp of McDaniels in Breckinridge County with murder.
They say they believe Shipp was headed to the home of his ex-wife in Lincoln County when Rakes stopped to check on him.
