A House committee has approved an executive branch budget plan that would spend 19-point-five billion dollars over the next two years.
The plan, passed by the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, would cut cost-of-living increases for state and local government retirees. They were supposed to get an increase of one-point-five percent each of the next two years. The vote was 26 to two.
The committee also okayed budgets for the legislative and judicial branches of government. All three budgets cut spending by eight percent.The plans now go to the full House of Representatives.
