Columbia Gas: Repairs Finished on Gas Leak in Downtown Lexington

Columbia Gas crews repaired a pipeline after a gas leak downtown Wednesday night.
Columbia Gas crews have repaired a pipeline that officials were calling a  "significant gas leak" in Downtown Lexington.

The Lexington Fire Department was called around 7 p.m. Wednesday for the smell of gas near West Main St. and South Upper.

Fire officials say contractors were doing work in the area and hit the underground gas line.

Two businesses were originally evacuated across from the old courthouse, but officials at Columbia Gas tell usthat they were able to isolate and shut down the section of broken pipe.

Columbia Gas crews completed the repairs Thursday afternoon. They say the line is safe however they will have to replace it in the near future.
