A Lexington man won an award for saving a child's life.
Some Lexingtonians are award winners.

Lexington police and the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association hosted the eighth police awards banquet Tuesday night.

Awards included the Citizen Service Medal, which was presented to Erick Long for an outstanding act of bravery. Long saved the life of a two-year-old boy last June. The boy's mother found him unresponsive. Long was a bystander who took the child out of the water and performed CPR. The boy fully recovered.

"It feels good to know I did something right to help a family, and especially the little boy," Long told us. "But I don't think I did anything that nobody else wouldn't have done."

Other awards included the Police Officer of the Year Award, which went to Vincent Matteini -- a 14-year veteran of the force. Shannon Garner received the Detective of the Year award.
