Christmas, New Year’s Day Collections, Closings

Residents will see no changes in their waste collection because of the holidays this year since Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Wednesday's.
Residents will see no changes in their waste collection because of the holidays this year since Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Wednesdays, a day normally used for employee training and equipment maintenance. Residents are reminded to put their carts out after 4 p.m. the day before collection.

The Lexington Recycling Center will be closed on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th), and New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1st). The city’s Electronic Recycling Center and the Haley Pike Waste Management facility will be closed Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24th), Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th), and New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1st).

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices will be closed on Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24th), Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25th), and New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1st).
 
The division will begin picking up discarded live Christmas trees for those who receive city collection service starting on Thursday, December 26th. Trees will be picked up on your normal collection day and taken to the city’s composting facility where it will be converted into mulch. All decorations and wrappings must be removed from the tree.
 
Fayette County residents can recycle holiday lights and other electronics such as computers, monitors and televisions at the city’s Electronic Recycling Center at 1306 Versailles Road.
