Child Dies In Rowan County Fire

State police say a fire killed a young child and sent five people to the hospital Friday morning.
State police said they found the body of a child in a burned home Friday morning.

Neighbors said the body was of a boy named Edward, 5, who they say had autism.

Troopers said the 911 call came in around 8:50 a.m. State police said six people lived in the home.

A neighbor, Lois Black, said she called after the mother knocked on her door, dropped three of her children off, and ran back to try and find the fourth.

Black said the children had burns on their hands and arms, and one was cut from breaking through her bedroom's window to get out of the burning home.

State police said the three children (all girls under the age of 10) as well as their parents were taken to a local hospital in Morehead. Troopers said four of them were later transferred to University of Kentucky Hospital; the fifth was taken to University of Cincinnati.

Firefighters said they aren't sure yet what caused the fire.

The conditions of the five surviving family members are unknown.
