The Cabinet for Health and Family Services says the number of children that have died in the past fiscal year from abuse is the lowest it’s been in 5 years.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader, a state report says at least 22 children in Kentucky have died from abuse or neglect in the past 12 months.

Compared to 31 deaths in 2011, 36 in 2010, 29 in 2009 and 30 in 2008.

Advocates say the drop in deaths is good news, but 22 is still too many.
