UPDATE: Chemical Leak Causes Partial I-75 N Closure

Around 6:30 Friday night, a semi-truck carrying sodium hydrochloride crashed into a police car while the officer was pulled over helping another driver around mile marker 113 on I-75 N.

I-75 N at exit 113 remains closed Friday night following a crash involving a semi-truck and a police car.

Around 6:30 Friday night, a semi-truck carrying sodium hydrochloride crashed into a police car while the officer was pulled over helping another driver around mile marker 113 on I-75 N.

Both the driver and officer were taken to UK hospital. No word on their condition other than the officer has non-life threatening injuries.

Police say drivers shouldn't be alarmed about the sodium hydrochloride leak.  Police had had people living on Mona, Mimi and Carla Courts in Lexington to stay inside as a precaution but they say it is now safe.

Hazmat crews were out but fire crews say the sodium hydrochloride didn't leak much on the highway and most of it stayed in the truck.  Crews say unless someone inhaled a lot of the chemical or touch the liquid, everyone should be safe.

Police are still investigating the wreck.  Crews are not sure when everything will be cleaned up and I-75 N will reopen.
