Today is the 34th annual observance of National Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day in America.

This year’s theme is “For All Time We Will Remember.”

This is the day we pay tribute to a special group of patriots, who have endured exceptional circumstances during their call to duty and to the families of those who are still listed as missing in action.

Roughly 16-million Americans served in World War II. Today 73,000 remain missing and unaccounted for from that war alone.

There is an estimated total of 83,580 soldiers, sailors, marines and aviators who have not returned from war dating back to World War II.

ABC 36’s Tom Kenny emceed a POW MIA recognition event at Lexington’s VA Hospital on Leestown Road today.
