It's a miraculous story of survival.

A homeless cat survived six days in rubble after an animal shelter burned to the ground.

'Freckles' was presumed dead after a fire last Friday at the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter.

But an insurance investigator found the cat Thursday covered in soot.

Freckles inhaled a lot of smoke and was burned on her paws and whiskers.

She's now healing at the Lexington Humane Society.

Workers say it should take a few months for her to fully recover.

She'll then be ready for adoption.

The humane society also wants to remind the community that about 400 animals are ready for adoption, right now.
