A car fire inside a parking garage in the Chevy Chase Plaza forced a high-rise building to be evacuated Friday morning.

The building fire alarm sounded, prompting an early morning evacuation of the mixed residential/commercial building in the 800 block of Euclid Avenue. The building has many residential apartments.

According to fire officials, the car was occupied when it burst into flames. The victim was able to get out of the car, and was later transported to an area hospital.

There was heavy smoke in the building's hallways and stairwells, fire officials say. The Lexington Fire Department was in the process of ventilating the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
