Burglar Alarm Finds Honesty Instead Of Burglary

A Lexington Speedway gas station's burglar alarm went off early Wednesday morning...but police said the alarm company didn't find a thief.
A burglar alarm at a Lexington gas station proved there are honest people out there.

Police said they were called to the Speedway gas station on Tates Creek Road just after midnight.

Instead of finding traces of a burglary, they said they found an open door and items still lying on the counter.

Officers said the alarm company watched surveillance that showed a woman entering the store, shopping around for a few minutes, then bringing her items to the counter.

It was then that the customer realized the store was closed.

Police said the woman then walked out...without the merchandise.

The honest customer left two bottles of water and a bag of chips on the counter.

According to the store's manager, the closing employee left the door unlocked--that's why the customer was able to get in in the first place.

That Speedway is one of the few in Lexington that isn't open 24-hours.
