A Lexington firefighter says the departments busiest engine is out of service through another brownout.

There's a sign posted outside Fire Station 2 on New Circle Road.

Firefighter Matthew Howard says Engine 2 responded to more than 2399 emergencies last year alone.

The brownouts are happening because of a lack of staffing.

The Firefighters Union says with retirements, the department has seen its personnel drop from about 545 people a year ago to about 480 today.

The city says it's in the process of hiring more recruits.
