A father and son purchased a storage unit in Whitley County, and found human bones inside.  Police think they could belong to a missing person from Delaware.

Steven Terry and his dad bought their first ever storage unit.

"Saw some trains and stuff like that, and saw those in there, so told my dad let's go ahead and bid on this one," said Steven Terry, who found the bones.

For 170 bucks the unit was theirs, and inside they found bones.

"just kind of a shock whenever I thought it was human remains, just surprise, shocked," said Terry.

They found the bones in plastic grocery bags.  They told the Pier Mobile Storage owner, who called 911.

"A guy he worked for me a little while, and his wife had disappeared, and everybody thought for sure that he had killed her," said the owner in the 911 call.

The Whitley County Coroner confirms the bones belong to a female.  The Corbin Police are investigating it as a homicide, and believe it could be related to a cold case from Delaware.

"the bones had looked like they had been buried at one point, and then dug up, and then placed here in the storage unit," said Detective Rusty Hedrick, Corbin Police.

From Delaware, the Newcastle County Police confirm they are looking into whether the bones could be Doris Wood, last seen in 1997.

Corbin Police say they were contacted by the Delaware police about the case a few years ago.  Police say the storage unit's owner died in May, and the unit went up for auction Thursday.

Police are waiting on the medical examiner's report to identify the remains.
