Laurel County investigators are investigating the discovery of a bomb.
It was located Monday morning on Dezarn Road, four miles east of London.
Police say the device was found by a man scouting woods for future hunting. He in turn notified the sheriff’s department. When sheriff’s detectives arrived at the scene and confirmed there was a suspected device, they secured the area, and requested assistance from the Kentucky State Police Hazardous Devices Unit, and A.T.F.
There are no houses nearby. When KSP and A.T. F arrived they discovered that the bomb was comprised of a large PVC pipe, and contained dynamite, and a blasting cap. The device did not appear armed, but did have all the components present to classify it as a bomb. It was removed from then scene and secured safely by KSP’s Hazardous Devices Unit.
An investigation is continuing by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department to attempt to determine why the device was located there.
