More than 300 generous Kentucky donors showed they bleed blue on Wednesday, but it just wasn’t enough to overtake the Gators, who lead Big Blue Slam, 1,156 – 973.

“With only two days left, we’re in danger of fouling out of this competition, but there’s still time to pull out a win,” said Martha Osborne, Kentucky Blood Center’s Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment. “That’s why we are urging healthy individuals to stop by one of our donor centers or blood drives Thursday or Friday.”

Big Blue Slam donors will receive a $10 gift card, Slam T-shirt and a chance to win an entertainment package – 60” Smart TV with Wi-Fi, 3D Blue-ray entertainment center and PlayStation 3.

Kentucky won the blood battle last year and leads the rivalry against the Gators and LifeSouth Community Blood Center in Gainesville, 3 to 1.

Donors can give at the following four Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) Donor Centers, which will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. during Slam, or at any area blood drive:

Beaumont Donor Center                                   Andover Donor Center

3121 Beaumont Centre Circle                           3130 Maple Leaf Drive in the Andover Shoppes

Lexington                                                              Lexington

Pikeville Donor Center                                       Somerset Donor Center

472 S. Mayo Trail                                                 120 S. Highway 27

To find a blood drive or schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.

Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old doors must also have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org. All donors must present a photo I.D.
