Bill Seeks To Prevent Parental Rights For Rapists

A Kentucky House committee approved a bill that would prevent rapists from obtaining parental or visitation rights for children born as a result of their sexual assaults.
A Kentucky House committee approved a bill that would prevent rapists from obtaining parental or visitation rights for children born as a result of their sexual assaults.

The proposal sailed through the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

Rep. Dennis Keene, the bill's lead sponsor, saID women who give birth to babies resulting from sexual assaults can face more emotional stress when the rapists seek custody of the children.

The bill would prohibit anyone convicted of first-degree rape from seeking parental or visitation rights for children resulting from the assaults.

The measure now goes to the full House.
