Bill Clinton Tries To Boost Alison Grimes

Democratic Senate challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes says Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is out of ideas and part of the problem in Washington.

Bill Clinton is the last Democratic presidential candidate to win the state of Kentucky, so Alison Lundergan Grimes hopes his popularity helps her beat Senator Mitch McConnell.

"I came out to see Bubba," said an Anderson County man.

"I think it goes without saying that Kentucky is Clinton country," said Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Grimes calls President Clinton a friend and a mentor.   Clinton says he'd campaign for Grimes even if she was polling at 5%. Grimes' campaign says they're dead even with Senator Mitch McConnell.

"It makes a big difference who wins this election and Alison Lundergan Grimes should win it, and will with your help. Thank you. And God Bless you," said Clinton.

Grimes hopes President Clinton gives her a boost in the polls.

"By the end of this race 8 months from now well be bringing home our Kentucky girl Miley Cyrus with a little wrecking ball straight to the guardian of gridlock," said Grimes.

President Clinton says Senator McConnell works to stop progress, and creates conflict for personal gain.

"It may work in elections, get people all torn up and upset and have everybody mad all the time, but it is a dumb way to run the country," said Clinton

The central theme was the economy.  Alison Lundergan Grimes says her first priority will be raising the minimum wage.

Some people paid more than $5,000 to attend the fundraiser at the Galt House in Louisville.
