Beware 'Jury Duty' Scam

The Lewis County sheriff says someone is claiming people missed jury duty -- and asking for money to clear it up.
Lewis County's sheriff says beware of a 'jury duty' scam.

Sheriff Johnnie Bivens says people have complained to him about phone calls, claiming they'd been selected for jury duty but failed to report. The sheriff tells the Ledger-Independent newspaper that the caller then says there's a warrant out for the person's arrest, but they can pay to cancel the warrant. The caller then asks for credit card information, and even a Social Security number.

The sheriff says people shouldn't give that kind of personal information to people or companies they don't know.
