The treasurer of a Berea school's Parent Teacher Organization was arrested Friday and charged with stealing money from the organization.

Berea Police said Ashley Duerson, 30, of Berea, turned herself in at the Madison County Detention Center.

Investigators said she was treasurer of the Silver Creek Elementary Parent Teacher Organization during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Police said during that period, she stole $12,150.57 from five separate fundraising events held by the PTO.

A new PTO treasurer was elected for the current academic year and discovered the missing money, according to investigators.

Berea Police began an investigation in late August.
