Benson Named New President Of EKU

Eastern Kentucky University has named Michael T. Benson as its new president.

The Board of Regents chose Benson on Friday at a special meeting on the Richmond campus. Benson, president of Southern Utah University, succeeds Doug Whitlock, who is retiring.

EKU said in a news release that Benson,48, has been successful in raising tens of millions of dollars for Southern Utah, where he has been president since 2006. Benson was chosen after a nationwide search that had been narrowed down to three finalists.

Eastern Kentucky University has about 16,000 students.
