On Thursday, members of the media were given a behind the scenes look inside the Lexington Division Of Police dispatch center. It is all part of National Telecommunicator Week, honoring those men and women who make sure you get the help you need fast.
These men and women work 12 hour days, and take more than 300,000 calls a year. Dispatchers say what many don't realize is how important their calls are to criminal investigations.
The Lexington dispatcher center only deals with police calls from the public. The local fire department has its own dispatch center, which at times does work hand in hand with police dispatch.
