A home in Frankfort has literally been overrun by bed bugs.

A normal size infestation of the bugs is anywhere from one to 50 bugs, however this home is estimated to have tens of thousands.

The homeowner Caleb Goins says its been so bad his wife had to go to the hospital. He says she'd been bit so bad her ankles had swelled up to at least double their normal size.

Travis Hardin with OPC Pest Control out of Lexington was called in to look into the infestation. He says in the 22 years he's been in the business he's only seen maybe one or two cases of bed bugs this bad.

Hardin says he and an expert from UK will go into the home later in the week and monitor the situation and then a week later begin raising the temperature of the home to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and spray the entire home. He says there are so many bugs that they've spread from the bedroom to the entire house.

Goins says even though he's been sleeping in his recliner for weeks, and is constantly washing clothes and picking the bugs off himself, he plans to stay in the home since he has nowhere else to go.

His wife will be moved to an assisted living home later in the week.

Hardin says the job will be done free of charge since the Goins cant afford this high a level of extermination.
