An Asbury University student died Saturday afternoon while playing on one of the school's intramural teams.

That's according to a statement from the university that says 24-year-old Jeff McMillian was having difficulty breathing and collapsed on the field.

The school says he was taken to the hospital, but didn't survive and that the cause of his death is still unknown.

University President Sandra Gray released a statement saying "Our prayers and thoughts are with Jeff's family and friends as we call on the Lord to carry us through this time of grief.

Memorial services are being planned for later this week in Florence.
