Another Option For Lexington’s Budget Surplus

Urban County Council Members have amended an ordinance that will decide where Lexington’s budget surplus will be distributed.

Urban County Council Members have amended an ordinance that will decide where Lexington’s budget surplus will be distributed.

The council is split between saving all of the funds or giving a portion of it to council members for capital projects in their districts.

Council Member Chris Ford, 1st District, motioned for two changes to the ordinance at Thursday’s Urban County Council Meeting.

(1)   Set aside $150,000 each for all 15 member districts – instead of $250,000.

(2)   Assign money to the general council office – instead of giving it directly to council members.

The new total set aside from the $7.6 million surplus would now be $2.25 million.

Tonight was the first reading because of the ordinance change because of the changes.

The second reading is scheduled for September 26th.
