Owners brought their pets to the annual “Blessing of the Animals” today.

They gathered at the Lexington History Museum during the Farmer’s Market.

Several animal rescue groups also brought the adoptable animals to receive the individual blessing.

And meet people who may be looking for pets, which organizers say many of those animals found homes today.

This tradition began as a way to honor Francis of Assisi, a 12th Century Italian who was known for his love of animals and the environment.
