The Lexington Fire Department is honoring three of its female firefighters for making history.

The department says an all-female crew went on a fire run on September 5th.

It's a first for the department.

Captain Maria Roberts, Firefighter Amanda Arbogast and Firefighter Sarah McGill will be recognized by the department this Wednesday.

The women made history September 5th when they responded from the East Third Street Station to a reported brush fire on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The department says the trio extinguished the fire and an era in Lexington's history on the run.

Women constitute 3.5% of the nation's firefighters.
