Metro Jessica is making steady progress at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center.
Executive Director Karen Gustin said when Jessica first came to the center she was 400 – 500 pounds underweight.
The 3-year-old Standardbred horse also had severe abscesses from gravel impaction and her two hind feet were missing major portions of the sole and hoof.
The center said it’s one of the worst cases of neglect they’ve ever seen.
Since arriving at the center on July 25, Jessica’s gained nearly 100 pounds and her feet are healing. The bandages on her hooves are changed every other day.
Gustin expects the horse to make a full recovery in a few months.
