A Dozen Homes In Nicholasville Evacuated Due To Chemical Spill

Officials say nitric acid was being mixed at Aulick Chemical when a leak developed.
There were some anxious moments Monday night in Nicholasville where some people were told to stay indoors while others were evacuated because of a chemical leak.

The Jessamine County Emergency Management Director said nitric acid was being mixed at Aulick Chemical off Industry Parkway when a leak developed.

Firefighters and hazardous material teams were called in.

As a precaution, a dozen homes in Tuscany Village off of Ashgrove Road were evacuated as the spill was contained.

Meantime, a dark cloud formed in the Eisenhower Court area as the acid reacted after coming in contact with concrete.

Officials said no one was hurt during the spill or clean-up.

Fire departments from Nicholasville, Lexington, Winchester, Versailles and Lancaster responded to the scene.
