Nearly two dozen animals were removed from a Frankfort home this morning after police say the animals were found in terrible living conditions.
Frankfort Police say 23 animals – 7 cats and 16 dogs – were taken from a home on Willis Avenue.
The Human Society says the cats are being held at the Franklin County Humane Society, while the dogs have been taken to Lakeview Park.
Nancy Benton, the shelter manager, said the living conditions for the animals was poor.
“There was feces and urine smeered into the floor,” Benton said. “They were in cramped kennels, cramped cages, a lot of broken wires… They were not real secure, the odor in the house was horrific. Our eyes were burning and it was hard to breath.”
Benton added that the animals are being looked at by a vet and should be read for adoption in about a week. She said the animals do appear to be in good health.
Frankfort Police say the animal’s former owner has not yet been arrested, and the decision to arrest him will be left to the County Attorney.
