22 Horses Found Wandering Trooper's Yard

It wasn't a gift from Santa--22 horses were found wandering a Kentucky State Police sergeant's yard. Now, he said, he's trying to find their owner.
A Kentucky State Police sergeant got quite the surprise on Christmas...but it wasn't from Santa Claus.

In fact, Sgt. Jim Bowling said he doesn't know who it's from.

22 horses were found wandering Bowling's Bath County yard around 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Neighbors called the sergeant, asking him about his new horses.

"I said, 'I don't have 22 horses...I've got a horse'," said Bowling.

After corralling the animals into a pen, he looked up and down US Highway 11--the road he lives off of--trying to find signs they'd been walking there.

"I checked the roads in every direction from the house here, and I don't see any evidence they've been on the highway," he said.

The horses look well taken care of and are friendly toward people, which made Bowling think they belong to someone.

However, he said he didn't think someone would just drop them off.

"It would take several trailers--either a semi-load or several cow trailers--to get that many dropped off," said Bowling.

Either way, the sergeant said he wants to find the owner...and return the horses to their home.

"I'm not looking for anything other than just to get them all back to who they belong to," said the sergeant.

Bowling asks that anyone with information about the horses' owner to call the KSP Morehead post at 606-784-4127.
