The High Hope Steeplechase Board of Directors has decided to cancel the 46th running of the annual event.
It was scheduled to take place Sunday, May 19th at The Kentucky Horse Park but the Board cited a lack of flat race entries as one of the main reasons for the cancellation.
They said the children's area, vendors' village, terrier races, and tailgating all could have gone forward as planned, but the Board feared fans would be disappointed in the lack of equine events.
Volunteers and board members had several emergency meetings to come up with new ideas for events to replace the cancelled ones, but decided to cancel altogether after expressing concern that, because of the high standards and quality of entertainment the Steeplechase, they wouldn't be able to deliver.
For 45 years, The High Hope Steeplechase, a day of live steeplechase racing, has brought in over $1 million for charities like Central Kentucky Riding for Hope.
Organizers hope to bring the Steeplechase back next year.
