Laurel County deputies said they received a tip about two adults walking along a busy roadway Thursday morning, with a toddler in tow.

They said when they arrived on Cherry Avenue, the man and woman were still walking with the three-year-old, who was shivering from the cold.

An investigation revealed the trio had allegedly left their home on Ball Avenue in Corbin around midnight and headed to Walmart, roughly three miles away.

The parents told officers they had some close calls with traffic as they and their toddler made the trip to the store and back in the subfreezing temperatures.

41-year-old James Clemons and 26-year-old Tasha House were both charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and booked in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

Social services placed the child with its grandmother.
