Steve Brown, 63, of Georgetown and his wife Ann have had their share of bad news in recent months.

Last Wednesday night they received some much needed good news after Steve checked his Cash Ball ticket from the May 22nd drawing.  He’d matched all five of his Cash Ball numbers.

Since Steve has been playing the same Cash Ball numbers for the last four years as soon as he spotted the winning numbers on the website he knew they were his.

Players who wager $1 and match all five Cash Ball numbers win $200,000 but Steve chose to buy five plays on one ticket using the same set of numbers which is how he won $1 million.  He said he picked his numbers based on birthdays.

After finding out he’d won, Steve staggered down the hall to find his wife.  “I was worried at first because he looked pale,” Ann said.  Steve told her, “You’re not going to believe this; we’ve just won $1 million.”  The couple said neither one of them slept much that night.

It just so happens that Steve has a friend that knows a little something about winning the lottery.

Rob Anderson of Georgetown won $128.6 million, the largest Powerball jackpot in Kentucky history, back in December 2010.  In search for guidance, Steve met up with Rob before heading to Louisville.

Six months ago Ann was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  This came just months after they both had retired.  She began chemotherapy almost immediately and will receive her last treatment this week.  As medical bills continue to come in on a daily basis, the couple said that their winnings will help in a big way.

Steve purchased his winning ticket at Clark’s Pump N Shop #85 in Georgetown.  The store will receive $10,000 for selling the ticket.
