LEXINGTON, Ky. - Woodford County closed out the opening day of the Kentucky high school baseball state tournament at Whitaker Bank Ballpark with final-inning drama.

Tied at 3 in the bottom of the 7th, the Yellow Jackets scored the game-winner to advance past Powell County 4-3.

Woodford County got 14 strike outs from starting pitcher Clinton Hollon.

The Jackets will next play Wednesday night at 8:30 PM against South Warren, which knocked out defending state champ Central Hardin 3-1 in the tourney's opening game.

Last year's state runner-up, Mercer County, fell to St. Xavier 4-0. The Titans and Tigers were scoreless through five, but a Mercer error in the top of the 6th allowed St. X to start the scoring.

St. Xavier will play Wednesday at 6 against Bishop Brossart, which beat Pikeville 4-2.
