My Breakdown of Bracketology's breakdown
Bracketology: Why? It's December 18th!

Oh how crazy, obsessed fans love to constantly check Joe Lunardi's weekly brackets.  I for one like to look too...but then I laugh and remember what I'm doing is pointless because it's not rocket science on most of the teams that will be there come March and the ones that are tough picks I'll see when the time comes.

I mean...Kentucky is basically etched in stone over in Louisville as the #1 seed in the St. Louis Regional.  The two seed in the bracket...playing in Nashville?  The Louisville Cardinals.  How about Murray State as the 7 seed!  They made their way in after remaining undefeated and downing then #20 Memphis (coached by John Calipari...I mean...uhh..Josh Pastner).

Kansas is in there as the #3...Mississippi State at #6.  Oh, and that UNLV team that looked really solid against North Carolina is the 5...Michigan State the #4.

Here's what I think...that it sits now..with Creighton and Gonzaga the 8-9 match-up and Purdue the #10 seed...that the Cats could have a tough go at an eighth banner this year.

Here's something else I find funny...Old Dominion is a 16 seed.  That's right...the Monarchs, who are 5-5 (lost to Kentucky by 10, Vermont in OT, Fairfield and UCF by 8 and Northern Iowa by like 17 in their opening game) are pitted against Ohio State.

Florida has a 4 seed in OSU's region...Harvard has the #7.  What I just typed is why no one should give a hoot about where teams are right now.  Harvard is a great basketball team, but did anyone ever think they'd be a 7 seed in the NCAA Tourney?  Did anyone think George Mason would the most improbable run to teh Final Four in the history of the sport?  I mean...the 2005-06 team did this:

75-65 Win over Michigan State
65-60 Win over UNC
63-55 Win over Wichita State
86-84 Win over UConn (OT)
73-58 Loss to Florida

Wichita State was supposed to be Cinderella that season. The Shockers, instead of shocking anyone, were downed by a team whose tallest player stood just 6'7".

UConn had Rudy Gay, Josh Boone, Jeff Adrien and Marcus Williams that year.  UNC had "Psycho T" Hansbrough and David Noel...Frasor, Miller and Marcus Ginyard.  Michigan State you ask?  Drew Neitzel and Maurice Ager...6'11" Paul Davis and a guy named Shannon Brown...who they held to 5 points and 3 rebounds.

While it may be fun to look at the "science" of March...there's a reason it was dubbed "madness."  So enjoy the glance, but remember that when the ball is tipped, and there you know the's one shining moment for anyone on the court to prove they belong there...and when a group of guys come together and refuse to fail...they can achieve greatness no matter how little everyone says they are.
