FRENCHBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 19-month old girl died two days after being hospitalized in a reported abuse case, according to the Fayette County coroner.
The coroner’s office says Aria Blanton died from multiple blunt force injuries. The coroner ruled her manner of death a homicide.
On Monday, April 17, a Menifee County sheriff’s deputy responded to Dave’s Minute Mart in Frenchburg following a 9-1-1 call involving a toddler.
The child reportedly was not breathing when crews arrived and had bruising on her face and body.
The child was airlifted to Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington where she died Wednesday night, according to the Fayette County coroner.
Investigators say the child’s mother, 27-year old Laura Blanton, left her daughter with her boyfriend, 28-year old Robert Collins, who brought the unresponsive child to Blanton at work at the minute mart. Investigators say one of Blanton’s co-workers called 9-1-1.
The couple was arrested and charged with first-degree child abuse. They were both lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.
